I have a model in which I have created several topo surfaces. I wish to display one and not the other. One shows "competent soil level" and the other is "existing grade". I wish to only have the "competent soil" and building foundations display only. The purpose of this is to provide an accurate plan showing the relationship of footings to competent soil.

I have tried "phasing" and "revit import" options with no luck. Why can't there be a simple "hide" (opposed to temporary hide) command?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Subcategories or worksets would be my choice.

Dimitri:

I don't see how you could use a "subcategory" in this instance - could you please elaborate.

Thanks

 I don't see how you could use a sub-category either Dick. Sorry, brain cramp.

Unless I'm unclear on exactly what you're trying to do I did try try the linking option and it seemed to be OK. You can create your one surface inside the model (so it's in context and line dup properly) and then just copy/paste it to another file and re-import into the project. You should then be able to control visibility independently by turning on/off topography in the model category and the linked file.

You could also try design options. Put the topo you want to show in the primary option, and then put the other in a different option.

You can control what option shows in each view in view/visibility...

Dimitri:

Yes the import object does work in the sense you describe it. However for whatever reason when I tried it - I got some misalignment. Long and short of it - any remote chance of error ( I have a hundred or so pad footings) scares the life out of me. I would rather work with the info exactly as it stands and not take any chances importing. Perhaps as mentioned options maybe the answer.

Thanks guys.
