View Full Version : Wall edge stuck to floor edge

Here's a too typical scenario:
I have a wall that is aligned with the edge of a floor. When I move the wall, the floor moves with it. I don't want the floor to move with it. I see no "locks", "pins", etc. when I select the wall. Neither are there any visible when I select the floor (when viewing in plan or section).
Aside from erasing the wall, and redrawing it, what am I suppose to do?

When you created the floor did you use the pick walls option?
If you do the inital selection based on the walls I can see the logic in having the walls stay connected to the floor edge. This makes sense in theory but can be a pain in reality.
If you create the floor first and then select the edges when creating the walls you don't run into this issue.
Easiest solution is to copy the wall to the new location and then delete the original.

If you used pick walls to draw the floor - it is by definition locked to the wall (and will retain the offset distance.)
If you draw the line (or use pick to draw - not the same as pick walls) it will be independent. Unless the line is drawn under the wall in which case they will auto join.
If you dimension your floor sketch to another object - it will respect this dimension over prefering to move with the wall. In your case - run a sketch dimension over to the demising wall....
You could also move the wall using the disjoin option, but this will disjoin the wall from other walls (and delete associated dimension references.)

Thanks for the tips Dimitri and Aaron! However, I rarely use "pick walls" because it does (unfortunately) tend to create issues down the line - and in this case, I'm pretty sure I created the stair opening before adding the wing walls. I might have used the mirror tool to add the wing wall (in the mirrored plan to the right, the wall doesn't have this issue).
I guess I'm going to chalk this up as a bug, or the unintended consequences of a "feature" (maybe related to this wish item (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=33698)). The constraints should always be visible and adjustable. Anyway, just checking to make sure I wasn't missing something obvious. Thanks.

Yep--this drives me batty also, has always been this way. It happens just when you draw floors with the line tool whenever a wall happens to be right at the same point as a floor. However, if you hit the disjoin button before making the move, you don't have this problem, but you do have to go back and re-join everything. Perhaps that will help...
