View Full Version : Adjusting Family to show Overhead Lines
Can anyone help me understand how to adjust an over-the-range microwave family so that the overhead lines i've drawn in it appear in plan view? The microwave is above the cut plane height so whenever i insert it in plan it dissappears.
The WI Wall-Hung Cabinet familes appear in plan with an overhead line, http://www.woodworkinstitute.com/manual_images_series.asp?series=300, but I'm haveing a hard time applying this to my family. I just can't figure out how to make it happen. Any ideas or help would be most welcome. Thanks.

Ben -
go to Families-Topic - Family line work help - Theres a simple linework
tutorial on families I posted there. See if that helps. (Sorry don't know how to link on this forum) - Anyway, in your family create a new object style (overhead- or whatever) now under model lines you have two categories of projection and cut for your overhead object style. In plan view, use a model line [cut] of your object you want to show in overhead view. Confusing at times, but not hard. Email me if you can't get it to work.
Upon downloadning your file, You already have your object style defined, just be sure to pick Overhead when you select your model line, and be in ref plan view. Draw your perimeter. Go to 3d view should look like the attached image. If so, and it doesn't appear in your plan that you insert your families, be sure that your linework is not turned off in that view.
One other thing, if you are inserting this on top of another family, that family (range) might have an area fill blocking the view of the overhead line.
bingo! :D
that did the trick. I had drawn the line as a symbolic line in the ref plan view of the family. i redrew it as an overhead model line and it appeared in plan view upon insertion.
Thanks.
