Dimensioning points on angled walls

When I'm running a linear dim string and need to pick up the points on a 45 degree wall, Revit seems to only select finish face, not core face. Without placing an invisible line or reference plane, is there a way to pick face of core?

I guess not.

Funny though, when in a medium detail level view, you can pick up the interior layer faces if dimensioning perpendicular to the faces, but not the endpoints. But for some reason the tape measure tool can pick the interior face endpoints.

Maybe an oversight...

I know. This drives me nuts. Why should I have to place RefPlanes at these instances only to drop in a dimension to a location that Revit should be able to find on it's own?
