My boss has asked me to do a quick avi external fly around in Shaded mode of a building and site we have modelled.

He has asked if I could place the model on a raster image of google earth (of the area around the site) so that it will show up on the shaded AVI flyby.

Has anyone done this before - is is possible?

Certainly, you can do this in VIZ/MAX

Just create a plane and apply the google earth image as a material. You might have to tweak it to get the right size.

In REVIT, I know you can place an image in 2D - have'nt tried it in 3D.
Try the same technique as VIZ/MAX, create a box with small thickness and apply the google earth image as a material.

Hope this helps.

it won't work I'm afraid as the material will only show when rendered. A decal would be another idea, but again the image will only appear when rendered.

The obvious option is to export it to another program. Personally I would use SketchUp, then use the brilliant page tool to create your animation.

However, if you are determined to keep it in Revit, maybe you could use some free software which will take an image and convert it to vector lines. Not super elegant, but it would work.

Good luck.

Max.
