We are wanting to develope a library of wall styles, and limit it only to walls styles that have been vetted by the office. With components you can load a component from another file from Properties, but in Wall properties the load button is inactive. And I can't seem to delete wall styles or components.
Probablly oh so basic, or am I barking up a tree here?

Thanks,
Gordon

Deleting walls:
Scroll down to FAMILIES in the project browser, choose Walls and find the ones you don't want, select and press the DEL key on the keyboard or Right Click, choose Delete.

Gordon,
You have several options for loading new families. The easiest is to just drag and drop the file from one project window to the new project window. You can also go to File/Save a Family, save it to a location, and in the new project, File/Load a Family.

Thanks! I knew it was just a "learning the UI" problem.

Best,

Load Component is one of those quirky Revit "freebies". (They are great when you get one, but don't expect one everytime you show up!) Being able to create a new sheet through the browser is another! Works great, just don't expect any of the other catagories to do it.

Some families are described as 'System' families. These can not be saved as .rfa files but can be saved within a template and/or project file. System families are not created with the File...New...Family method as per Doors, Windows, Furniture etc. But are created by duplicating an existing type and changing its properties. Other system families include floors, roofs, railings and stairs.

You can also use the 'Transfer Project Standards' option from the file menu. Open your working drawing and the drawing that contains the walls you want. Use transfer project standards and check/uncheck those things you wish to transfer. The downside of this is that you can not select individual wall styles it's all or nothing.

Is this 8.1 or 9? Running 8.1 and have not been able to drag-drop between project windows. Something I am doing wrong? Please explain in better detail as to how to do it.

Dragging a family file from Windows Explorer into the Project Browser or document window loads that family file into the project.

Dragging a family file from Windows explorer into any area other than the Project Browser or document window, including the Design Bar, toolbar, and menu bar opens that family in the Family Editor.

Dragging multiple files from Windows Explorer into a session of Revit Building opens a dialog that allows you to either Open dropped files in separate windows or Load dropped families into current project.

Hi there!
The easiest way to export one wall style from one project to another is to Copy from the first and Paste to the second project.
