footing in elevation hidden below grade

Is there an easy way to have all items (such as footings and foundation) that occur below grade to show as hidden lines in an elevation view?

This can be done using phases.
Set two phases 1: Below Grade, 2: Above Grade
make sure that the properties of everything that is above grade is set to that phase using the object properties (do same for below grade objects)
Set the phase filter for your elevation to 'Previous + New'
Set the Graphic Overrides for the 'existing' to hidden line.

I can't get the surface pattern of the blockwork to show as dashed. Anybody else have any idea's

thanks for the reply. it looks like a good option. the only problem i see with it is on a sloping site, or when the foundation extends above grade. the foundation would then show hidden when it didn;t need to. that is why i wonderer if it could be done with just being below grade.

Dont get me wrong I do appreciate the your help, but is there another way of doing it?
