printer settings incompatable

When ever i print if i do not view my printer properties first i get an error in the setup saying that my printer settings are incompatable. Do i have something setup wrong?

That's not at error, just a warning. If you have your default printer set to a laser that only prints 8 1/2 x 11 and then select a print setup that is 24x36 - you will get this error message. Prevents people printing stupid stuff on the color laser printer.

It doesn't seem to even register my printer unless i go to the properties button first.

I've been having that problem with my HP printers. So I choose my Epson printer, then I go in and choose the Revit printer-session settings, then I go out of that, choose my HP printer and make further settings in the HP preferences like "minimize margins."
