Wall subcategory

Hi All

I am trying to create a new wall subcategory for concrete walls, with a different line width to normal walls. I created the subcategory no problem, but cannot assign the wall to this category, and also cannot edit the family to create the subcategory there.

Any suggestions?

At this time the factory doesn't allow walls to be assigned to user-created subcategories. This has been a wishlist item for some time, I think, as it would also help with visibility issues that right now require something like worksets, even though the project may be small enough to not need worksets otherwise.

You can do it with in-place wall families. They will take longer to model tho because they are in-place.

Filters in v9.0 will enable you to do this, in a round-about kind of way.

We do still need for walls to have some kind of direct control over singular wall styles though, either in the wall type definition or under Object Styles. I'm voting for under the wall type definition so you can control the properties of of the different parts of the wall, not just the overall wall.

Ok, it looks as if my requirement cannot be met by sub-category only. Is there any other suggestion on how to assign different line weights to different wall types. All I need is to show concrete retaining walls in a heavier line weight than masonry.

Any suggestions?

Is there any other suggestion on how to assign different line weights to different wall types.The only other way is to use the Linework tool, and trace over your walls. You will need to trace over the walls on each individual view.

I should clarify that when I said Linework, I meant the Linework tool on the Tool menu, not drawing new lines using Detail Lines or Model Lines.

If you don't have many to model and they are simple retaining walls, I'd follow Archjake's suggestion and use an in-place wall family.

You can set a subcategory for walls, say retaining walls, then assign this subcategory to your family. Line styles will follow your sub category setup.

According to one of Revit's help pages you can create it in Object Styles and then New Model Subcategory.

"By default, wall sweeps are set to the Wall Sweep subcategory of walls. In the Object Styles dialog, you can create new Wall subcategories and subsequently select one here. This allows you to modify wall sweep style at a project level using the Object Styles dialog."
