i'm making glass shelving which is attached and follows a wall. it was easy to make it a wall sweep. I wondering if other people are using wall sweeps for shelving? or if there may be problems with this method that i'm not seeing yet.
thanks.

I've done this before, the problem I ran into was turning off the shelf for drawings which didn't show casework. Had the same problem with visibility when I used curtain wall mullions as shelves... though it made laying out millwork a snap.

Just make sure you make a subcategory for it under walls so you can turn it on and off. If you have lots of them it would be better to make a family, but for just a few its a great way to do it quickly.

Michael,
I've made wall-hosted families for these items. They're parametric and can control the number of shelves, materials, etc. They're also made with Subcategories so they can be seen or not seen. With some of the conflicts that can arise with sweeps, I try to use these sparingly... that's why they are a family. And they can be reused pretty simply from project to project. If it's of a unique shape, I could make it an in-place generic family and just align it to the walls.
My thoughts and two cents.
Kyle.

Thanks for all the feedback. in this case i used the wall sweep (see image). I noticed that you can't place the wall sweep in plan view which is why i'm leaning toward having it a wall hosted family. thanks again.
