I have several questions to further understand what you're doing.

1. Are you importing the shape into Revit as a Mass?

2. Are you sub-dividing the surface in Max before importing it into Revit?

Revit's Curtain System by Face tool will seek to find a single surface of a mass, then use the curtain system's grid spacing to divide the surface in the Revit model.

The curtain-wall/ -system works only on nurbs surfaces. The surface can be open or stitched to other surfaces that may form a solid object. When saving your max-nurbs surface to dwg it get meshed and loses its nurbs propriety. Dwg as of -> 2004 can contain nurbs if they form a valid solid. To import open surfaces into Revit you have to use the ACIS format. Max can not save to ACIS. (It is possible with a plug-in from npower software.)

Solution: Export your max nurbs to iges. Open this this file in for example rhino, formz, or solidworks. Save as ACIS file version 7 or lower. Open the ACIS file in Revit.
