Hi Mike

Please note I have *moved* this thread from the CAD Mgmt. General (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=119) forum to this one, as I feel this particular forum is a more appropriate place for such a topic.

Thanks, Mike

Hi

PCX is a valid file type, when outputting to a file via the _.Render command.

PCX can also be outputted via the _.Plot command when a Raster File Format output devices has been set-up via "Add-A-Plotter Wizard" using the Raster Heidi Driver and selecting "ZSoft PC Paintbrush PCX (ZSOFT PACKBITS Compression)" as Model type.

Mike, thanks for quick reply but you lost me in several areas. Must be the Monday Morning Syndrome... I cant seem to find the Raster Heidi Driver on this system here at work. Is it part of the regular Acad plot styles?
Also, what is Zsoft PCX?? Will that be a selection window when I set up the Heidi Driver
plot style?

Thanks again for your help.
Mike

Double click on "Add-A-Plotter Wizard" ( shortcut ) or go directly to "addplwiz.exe".

Add Plotter wizard opens.

Add Plotter - Introduction Page -> Click "Next" button.

Add Plotter - Begin -> Select radio button "My Computer" -> Click "Next" button.

Add Plotter - Plotter Model -> From "Manufactures" window select "Raster File Formats" -> From "Models" window select "ZSoft PC Paintbrush PCX (ZSOFT PACKBITS Compression)" -> Click "Next" button.

...

One simple process I use to create a JPG file (similar to PCX, I believe) is to do the following:

1. In the AutoCAD file, zoom in as close as possible to what I want in the JPG file.
2. Hit the Print Screen button on the keyboard.
3. Open up Microsoft Photo Editor.
4. Under the Edit Menu, select "Paste as New Image." The AutoCAD screen appears in the new JPG file just created.
5. Crop out the unwanted stuff.
6. Save to PCX format if necessary.

Good luck,

Woody

Woody, great tip !! I forgot all about that PRINT SCREEN capability.
We're doing some neat stuff here now---thanks to you.
Client still wants PCX files (and we are viewing them with Corel Draw) but the jpg's look great.

Thanks

Instead of using the JPG file format, you better use the PNG file format, it’s a lot smaller and the quality is the same. Also you can open this file with almost every program.
Check page 10 in this AU course handout.

Otherwise, here you find other great converting tools.
