how to handle infor shown below grade?

I asked this before, but i dont think that i got a clear enough answer. How is everyone handling information below grade, such as footings. I got a good answer regarding setting the footing to a different phase and applying a filter, but i work with a lot of sloping site so at time i would only need some info hidden.

Is the best way to use the line work tool? I can seem to find any other solution to the issue. how are other showing foundation and below grade itmes?
