This is the conventional way to edit an object using grips: You select the object, pick a blue grip, right-click to deploy the shortcut menu and select an editing command. But there is an even faster way to access those editing commands by using grips, especially with move and rotate. If you select an object and pick a grip, you can press the space-bar once (enter) to get the move command; if click the space-bar twice you get rotate; if click the space-bar three times you get scale; if you press the space-bar four times you get mirror.

The trick here is to memorize the number of clicks for each command. In order to get use to it you can start by using move (one click) and rotate (double-click) first; at least those are the ones I use the most. Once you get use to it you'll see how fast you can access those commands (a lot faster than the traditional way). I don't even have to think about it to access the rotate command (double-click)
