I am trying to create a family, for top of wall callouts, where a line extends with the longest line of text (See attached jpg). I have added a parameter where I can enter a length for that line, but I am looking for something easier to work with. I am looking for something like a shape handle for the line or some way that the line stretches automatically. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Alan

You may have already looked at this, but have you tried the "Spot Dimension" within the drafting tab. You could create a new type called Top of Wall and set the elevation indicator to TOW=. This way the top of wall will stay linked to the wall when it changes. However, I think this will only allow one line of text.

Alan, I'm almost positive you'll have to post this one at the API forum (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=218). Coming from an AutoCAD background, I know that you could calculate the string length and get your line length based on that, but I do not know enough about the Revit API to venture a guess on whether it is possible.

I can say with almost complete confidence that you cannot do this within the family editor and Jamie is absolutely right that you will want the elevation label to be driven by the model.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't even think about making the elevation label linked to the model, but now that you mention it, thats a must. I'll keep messing around with different ideas and hopefully I'll come across something that might work. Thanks again.
