I am a Residential Architect looking to use the structural tools in Revit Bldg
8.1. I have always shown my structural representations as 2D detail lines
in Revit. I thought to try out the structural tools this time around.

Everything is going great, however, I can not get my Steel Beam to show
up as a dashed line. I have checked the "Stick View On Top" but it gives
me the result below. I want a dashed heavier line for a structural beam.

What do I need to do to make that happen?

I just posted this in Revit Structure but thought I don't have Revit Structure
and maybe the solution would be different with Revit Bldg and Revit Structure?
so I posted here as well

The quick answer is change from medium detail to course detail. Make sure the beam is on the Girder object style, under properties.

Erik,

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried for 10 min to change the beam(s)
in question to the Girder object style, under properties. But could not see
how to do that. Help

I pull up element properties and was not apparent how to get the Girder
object style. I tried View Properties and then went under Object Styles
and again, have no clue how to get those beam puppies to become
Girder Object style.

select any beam and then right-click to Select All Instances - In the Element Properties for the beams on the Instance Parameters page select Structural Usage and set it to Girder.
