Has anyone experienced slow Regen's and or paper space tab changes when using dynamic blocks in your drawings?

We could typically have about 100 or more of these blocks in a given plan.

I have a DB block with 32 different visibility options.

Example attached

I had regen problems a long time ago, but it was not really related to DBs and I have never experienced tab changes. Maybe you'd care to elaborate what it is that is happening when it all becomes slow?

..... In the meantime, try this ...

Improving performance when picking objects or regenerating drawing:
Type Status on command line - now check the drawing limits (Model Space Uses) to see if it says "**over" - If so, re-establish "limits" to something that will not be over.

Command: "Limits" -> etc (follow on screen directions)

Not sure if this will help as I am not 100% clear on HOW you experience you slow regens. This is merely a suggestion.

We are having similar problems in our office that started a few days ago. Previously we did not have these problems and we don't know of any event that would have triggered it other than opening and using a drawing from an outside consultant. We are using AutoCAD 2006 on Windows XP.

The problem started with changing attributes in an attributed block (initially happened on a dynamic block). A fraction of a second after typing or deleting text in the Enhanced Attribute Editor, the Windows hourglass comes up for about 15-20 seconds. If you click on the screen while the hourglass is visible, the title bar for the Enhanced Attribute Editor shows that the program is [Not Responding]. AutoCAD does continue after the hourglass disappears. Using the Windows Task Manager to view some inner workings, it can be seen that explorer.exe becomes active during the delay period. The light on the network card also shows activity during the delay period.

The delay also happens with changing between the paper space and model space tabs and after changing the size of viewports in paper space.

If you use ddatte to edit the attributed block, changes can be made to all of the attributes and the delay happens after the window is closed. The delay seems to be in refreshing the view of the attributed block showing the changes. ddatte only refreshes after the window is closed and the Enhanced Attribute Editor refreshes after typing ceases.

If the files are moved to the local hard drive and the network is disconnected, the files seem to work fine, so it looks as though it is a network problem. The only thing that we can find that AutoCAD is accessing on the network is the plot style table. If the plot style table is saved and accessed on the local hard drive the problem is gone.

We don't really have a "network administrator". Any ideas on the network bottleneck? Other operations on the network seem to be fine (cutting and pasting from the network to the local hard drive in Windows Explorer, etc.). The bottleneck seems to be AutoCAD accessing the plot style table on the network.
