Here it is, as promised. Please read the read me before running the script. Typical run time is around 10 to 20 minutes for a year old or newer computer.

Revit Render Bench - v.01 (http://home.comcast.net/~smcampbell789/storage/Revit-Bench.exe)

Remember I created this for my personal use on my own time and it is not supported by Autodesk in any way.

[code:1:74ed0d4dd3]
Instructions:
1. Unzip the contents into your C:\Revit-Bench. (The self-extracting zip is set to default to this directory and is require by a portion of the benchmark.)
2. From explorer drag the correct version of the render-bench text file onto your Revit Icon on your desktop.
render-bench5.txt for Revit 5.1
render-bench6.txt for Revit 6.0 & 6.1
Note: The version of the test for 5.1 will not run on 6.0 or 6.1 and vice-versa.
3. AntiVirus - It may be required to temporarily disable your antivirus script settings to allow this script to run.
4. Use at your own risk, this script is unsupported and may not work on every system and or version of revit.

Is the unzip location required to be the letter "C" drive or the main drive the computer is working from?

Is the unzip location required to be the letter "C" drive or the main drive the computer is working from?

It is recommended because of the decal loaded into the model is mapped to that location. I you want to place it in a different location, you will have to open up the Render-Bench.rvt and remap the Roadway.jpg to the new location. Save the file, then run. Otherwise you will get a warning that the image is missing and the script will stop.

Thanks for posting this Steven!

If everyone would kindly post their results HERE (http://www.zoogdesign.com/forums/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3768) we can keep this thread open for questions and comments reguarding the benchmark.

I have tried to run the test twice and get unrecoverable error message both times after the file has opened (version 6.1 current build 20040404_2100) :?

Allen,
Which script are you running??? As I mention in the instruction you need to run the "render-bench6.txt" for 6.1. The "render-bench5.txt" will not run with version 6 or 6.1.

Hope that fixes it for you...

Steven,

Has anyone else reported to you that after running this script the Revit program it was used on ends up with your user name "Steve"? I was trying to figure out why I couldn't make my worksets editable, so I checked my settings and lo and behold the user name said "Steve".. that's pretty funny  !

I haven't been working on a workset project for a couple weeks now and NO I hadn't notice that...but then my name IS Steve...so I'm good to go haha!

Opps, sorry about that. By running the journal Revit inherits the user from the journal. Since I made it on my home machine the journal captured my user name from there.

I uploaded a new version that ignores the user. You can download it from the same link above.

Sorry for the delayed response (on vacation), but I tried again, making sure that I used render-bench6 script, and get the same message(Acer, P4 1.6GHz, Win2000, 512 MB RAM, NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro).

Do you have a valid license? If the license is not set up yet it will fail. You can run it with a demo license but you first need to set it and run revit, then close revit and then run the script. Also try running it from the default location it unzips too. Hope this helps.

Any chance you can update them for 7 and 8 ?

Any chance you can update them for 7 and 8 ? The "render-bench6.txt" journal should work fine for both 7.0 and Revit Building.

Is it to early to get a test going on 8.0.

I ran the benchmark on 7.0 and got a lousy time;

I can't get any results.Use the revit 6 script w/ the procedure at the top of the thread. I get results just fine.

There's a thread here: http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=3690 where lots of results are posted.

I just got a MacPro Dual Quad (5 GB ram) and I am anxious to test it out in Boot Camp, but I keep getting this message:

"The journal file could not be run to completion. Utilize care in saving any work as the project may be in an unstable state"

"Enter interactiven mode"

I upgraded the file, but it still gives the same message. Any ideas?

I also would like to test it in Fusion.

Thanks

What version of Boot Camp are you running and what version of OS X? What version of Windows are you running under Bootcamp?

Make sure you have all the latest system/bios/driver updates.

The only time I've had that error when running the benchmark was on a regular PC running Windows Vista when it first came out. A video driver update fixed it.

First some interesting things I found out about price:
I bought this machine from Apple with 1 GB ram at a base price of $3,873

I added about another $600 for XP, Fusion and 4 GB ram...so $4,400. After feeling guilty because I thought I was spending too much for getting a Mac, I looked at a comparable machine on the Dell site and was up to $5,300. That suprised me.

I do not use Max, some photoshop..but not like you Ski!

I am using Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) that comes with Boot Camp installed ..I am not sure what Version it since it was already installed (Boot Camp Assistant is V 2) it is probably the latest since Apple just shipped it out with Leopard. The Boot Camp drivers that support the Mac OS were downloaded from the Leopard OS disk that came with Leopard. I could try downloading the graphics driver again.

Using Windows XP Pro (SP2)

When I am in the Boot Camp partition the computer info. shows 5GB of memory detected. However, I thought that Windows could only use 3GB's?

Good question. I can't find any benchmark program for 2009. But i see lots of people talking about it. Can someone please point me to where I can download a 2009 benchmark, and instructions on how to run it?

Thanks

Well, Jason Grant is working on a great benchmark for Revit 2009 right now. See his thread about it and vote YES for it as well.

I'm not quite sure where this belongs or whether it should even have it's own topic, but one of the draughters did a very nice test.

He's using a HP machine with a Intel quadcore and... being Windows XP effectively 3GB of memory. Keeping in mind that Revit only uses one processor core we thought it was a good idea to render with two sessions at a time.

He opened the system monitor during some tests and made quite a few nice screenshots. Turns out during one rendering all four cores are used for about 40% and the memory is hardly used. During two simultaneous renderings all cores are used up to 20% and memory is full. The machine is better left untouched at that point. However two simultaneous renderings take less time than either of them alone.
To improve memory performance, considerations are being made to migrate that particular machine to Vista 64 business edition.

Did anyone experience something similar? Will the migration to a 64 bit Windows edition (ie Vista) likely improve performance?
