Changing In Place Family type

I created some families as part of casework and now I want them to be part of furniture. It doesn't seem I can do that? can I? or I have to recreate them as furniture. That would be a bummer.

Reset the family category by opening the family up and going to the menu "settings/family category and parameters..." then change the category to furniture.

OOPs.. i forgot to mention they are "In Place Families". Can't seem to do that..

is it not the same as steve suggested but just be in the 'edit family' mode firstly.
