View range is a subset of the view properties dialog and there is no menu command to display the view range dialog. There is no way to assign a keyboard shortcut to the view range dialog as a result. Only commands that are part of the menu structure can be assigned a keyboard shortcut.

It's now 2007. Is it still the case that no keyboard shortcut can be assigned to this command?

Yes, unfortunately it is the same.

This seems like something that could be resolved with a little programming know how using the API. I don't have any experience with it yet, but it seems do-able. Although not ideal for what your asking (I don't think you can assign a shortcut to an External Tool or maybe you can since Steve mentioned menu structure as a requirement) but it would reduce it to a few menu clicks.

Good point. But what if you ONLY wanted to affect the view range and none of the other template properties (scale, display model, detail level, etc.).
