What have I done to my Dimensions

This is my first project in Revit. I can no longer edit dimension values. (no I don't want to override dimensions) When I pick a wall that's been dimensioned the dimension doesn't highlight like it did before or as it does in a new project so you can change the wall location by keying in a new value. I have enabled worksets. Does this change the way dimension behave. I'm stumped. Thanks for any help.

after selecting the object you want to move, click the 'activate dimensions' button on the top toolbar.
