The room command. Good stuff.........could be better!

This is an idea taken from cheif architect, but I always thought one of its best ideas.

When a room is created in chief architect (from what I recall) it assumes a number of simple factors that are typical to virtually every room. For example: That room will have a skirting board, a coving, the same wall finish, floor finish within that room etc.

Now it could be that lets say you have drawn up a plan showing a couple of rooms, you place a room tag into a room, and as we know, there are already parameters set within the room tag.

But how about that room tag actually controls features such as skirting, coving and finishes? A skirting profile is pretty much a doddle to automatically create around a room. After all, the profile simply follows the same room bounding as the area tag uses to bound the room. Set the profile name, offset height & material, et voila! Same for coving, dado's etc.

The wall finishes could be controlled too. At the moment, painting wall finishes is a pain, especially to 2 rooms sharing the same wall (you need to split the wall, or split the surface of the wall.) Why not have a parameter in the room tag that contols the wall finish of that room? This would be excellent for floors too! (Of course you would need to be able to overide if not all the walls/floors were the same finish within that room)

Anyway, thats my thought for this morning.

It just seems like this could be so easily achieved. What do you guys think?

Max.

I love the idea of recommending an improvement the day after a product is released. Dive right in!

Hmmm, maybe I should have left them a day to relax.......naaaaaaa. Get back to work you factory dudes! Too much potential still to exploit!

Let's keep the pressure on - so many great ideas, so little time.
