It would be great if wall components could be selected from a list of pull-downs, arranged according to CSI format. Then, when the component is selected, the NCS-approved symbology would automatically be completed in the display settings. It could also default to modular sizes, such as nominal 8" CMU.

I love the idea, but what happens to the firm that would rather draw to actual size v nominal. (Yes I just got done with a job that had a 1'-4" think foundation wall and a 1'-3 13/16" thick Arch wall above, along with 7-5/8" thick load bearing cmu) It's a nice thought, but what version of NCS are you going to use? We just got done updating all of our template files to be NCS compliant using the correct Tri-Services colors. Then we started a government job that required us to use the NCS. But we upgraded to Version 3.0 and they want their drawings in Version 2.0. Again, I love the idea, but what standard are you going to follow? As I like to often call it the NNSCS or the National Non-Standard Cad Standard. If you go to the gov. website you will find each agency still uses their own .ctb file and they ain't the same.

My experience with NCS so far is that revisions are additive, rather than changes, at least as far as layers, colors, and displays go.

I did mention in the original wish that there could be a default to resort to nominal dimensions, as opposed to real dimensions.

Why not select standards at the start of the project and let all selections follow those standards? Autodesk has done a great job, so far, of keeping on top of the standards.
