View Full Version : Subcategory Schedule
First of all I want to thank all of the experienced users out there for your help. I am not an advanced user but without this forum I would be even far less advanced. Most of my questions can be answered by using the search function, however I came up blank on this one.
I need to show a ventilation schedule in my project. I have created a subcategory of mechanical equipment called Ventilation but when I make a mechanical equipment schedule, how do I keep the other mechanical equipment, which i do not want scheduled out?

I think you'll need to either add something to one of the default parameters (maybe as a comment) or add a new parameter to the project that you can filter by in the schedule.

You need to apply a filter to your schedule that only gives you the items you want to see in the schedule. There are a couple of different methods you could use to accomplish this.
1. As Greg suggests, add a shared parameter to your mechanical equipment such as a y/n called "appears on schedule". Then filter your schedule so only those instances that are true display in the schedule. This method works, but then you always have to remember to check "yes" on each piece of equipment and if you don't check yes on all of them your schedule will be wrong.
2. Set up a "type mark" scheme that allows you a way to filter to what you want. In the filter option on the schedule you could set the filter of type mark "begins with" and make sure all the pieces of equipment you want to schedule have a beginning type mark that is unique to what you need to show in the schedule. (i.e. type mark = MV01 for Mech Ventilation equip type 01, MV02 for #2 etc). Your filter then would be "begins with" MV. Other mechanical equipment would have a different type mark scheme.
3. You could use the same technique as #2 above for any parameter that exists in the family. Just make sure the logic of the filter gives you what you are looking for.

Yep, the filter is the way to go here. I usually use the comments field, and use "DO NOT DISPLAY" as the entry into that field. Then filter for the Comments field, set it to "Does not equal" and then "DO NOT DISPLAY" will appear in the drop down. that will get rid of all your unwanted items from that particular schedule. I use this quite frequently, actually.
