Beam & Column Visibility

On my basement plan I would like to see the steel columns being cut and the beam (girder) above in overhead lines.

The problem is that my beam displays as though I am looking down from the level above and it blocks the display of the columns entirely.

My detail is set to medium and no matter how I adjust the view range it doesn't have any affect this problem.

You are probably looking at the modeled geometry in plan and it's blocking out your columns. You'll have to go into the beam family and change the visibility parameters to get it to display as you want it. Turn visibilty off and use symbolic lines for your beam extents.

If the beam is above the cut plane and the top range why does it display at all?
