Hi,

I have been discussing this question at the autodesk revit newsgroup and at experts-exchange, without any success... :(

first off, my specs: Asus M3000-n centrino laptop, w/2x256mb rddr ram, 1.6 ghz, running wXP SP1 with ALL updates, running at a desktop resolution of 1400x1050. all drivers are updated.

I have been experiencing a problem that I hadn't with the previous Revit 5 version.
Revit (on first installation) gets to the license manager, and no matter what I do, it crashes (BSOD) a few seconds after you start working with it.

After that, the BSOD occurs right after the Revit splash screen appears (10 sec loading, then BSOD), I don't even get to see the program window.

When it BSOD's I can't see what what's written there, just grasped a w32???.dll(probable extension?) on the near bottom of the screen. After the computer reboots, it chkdsk's the hardrives, and on entering windows, appears a send info on crash to microsoft window.

I send the info to MS, and microsoft the OCA page suggests that my Synaptics touchpad MAY be the cause of the crash. Please note I DO NOT think that is the case.

What I have till now:
- Safe Mode: Revit RUNS in safe mode. The licensing manager does not, so I can only work in try mode (this is why I think it's probably not the touchpad, because it runs even in safe mode);

- Disabling the touchpad is a UNAVAILABLE option. I tried to uninstall it, but after uninstall it keeps running until reboot, and on rebooting it automatically installs again (without asking), so disabling it in not an option;

- BSOD'ded my pc a few times. please don't make me do that many times, because it has corrupted files the previous times, and I had to reformat the hard drive.

Answers maybe:
- any solution to solve the problem (which I think to be higly unlikely, as this would solved only with new drivers... :();
- a WORKING support address for ASUS, preferrably a NEWSGROUP;
- suggestions on tracking down the origin (hardware) of the BSOD - this could be a software app.

Thank you very much.

A very longshot...try removing printers. I have seen a "bad" printer driver crash a computer when launching Revit...(only twice mind you and on an older version)

If you've been given an indication that it could be your Touchpad drivers - I wouldn't discount that possibility. You may find that in non-safe mode you're running special Touchpad drivers, whereas in Safe Mode, you're just using generic Windows drivers. I would see if I could uninstall the Touchpad-specific drivers if there are any in the Add/Remove Programs. Also, I would look into disabling the Touchpad in your BIOS setup and attaching an external mouse - that would be another clue whether it had anything to do with your Touchpad or not...

Now why it would crash only in Revit - I couldn't tell you. I'd probably just want to make sure that it -wasn't- the Touchpad before I looked into other areas to solve, since you've been told that it seems related to the Touchpad.

acseven,

In one of your postings on NG you indicated that everything but licensing works if you start your computer in Safe mode. I think you should investigate the suspicion that licensing based on SafeCast technology is at fault.

You can confirm it by starting your computer in Safe mode and while in this mode switch Revit into demo mode. Then restart your computer normally and use Revit which will still be in demo mode. If blue screen does not happen then this would be a good indication that the problem has to do with licensing and SafeCast. In this case you would need to contact support at Autodesk and ask for their help.

Hi!

thank you all for your replys!

well, my video card is an Intel 82852/82855 (ram shared memory - 64mb).

I don't have any printers installed.

about disabling the touchpad, using add/remove hardware is not possible, but I'll check through the BIOS (didn't even think about it, thanks).

the licensing system shouldn't be the problem as well, because It crashed both in demo mode and after I put a chance made number (on independent hard drive formats). note that I am on trial for this product, still.

thank you, I'll try checking the BIOS.

I disabled the touchpad in my BIOS, but still Revit crashed. This time the OCA site could not suggest anything that caused it. I got, however, the chance to track the error analysis, so I'll wait to see if it corrected in the meantime...
