View Full Version : Plotting Raster processing in version 9 Crashes

Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone out there has this same issue w/ Revit Version 9, the problem is as follows:

If you plot a Raster/Color sheet using Raster Processing to the plotter in version 8.1 it comes out just fine.
I upgraded this same file to version 9 and tried to print the same sheet in Raster/Color sheet using Raster Processing and it crashes our entire offices NETWORK print spooler,(This is not good times).

We have HP Designjet 1055CM with 256 mb RAM and the latest driver 4.67.

Autodesk has told me to go to Start\Printers and Faxes\right click on the plotter in question\Printing Preferences\Advanced Tab\and change the processing from "in Printer" to "in Computer". This worked for some people's plots but not everyone's, some people it would just freeze in the plotter and plot a black blob. And it takes forever to plot even "Vector Processed" Sheet with "in Computer" processing, not to mention it was messing up alot of other non-revit programs and the way they plotted.

We switched back to "in printer" processing and and if we have to print a Raster/Color sheet using Raster Processing, then we'll write it to PDF or DWF and print from that.

My question to Autodesk is: Why would this work in version 5 through 8.1 and now when we get to version 9 it no longer works?

Autodesk COULD replicate the failure with the file I sent them, & they have the same plotter as us. Autodesk said they would show the problem to the developers, I hope they fix it in the next version..

Again, is there anyone else that has had this same issue?
(Note:
1. we have 10 seats of Revit licensed through our Network
2. The files I am using and sent to Autodesk have 0 Review Warnings)

Anyone,....Anyone??
If so please send your file to Autodesk so they can troubleshoot V.9

This squeaky wheel needs some grease.
Has anyone tested this?

So has anyone had this happen yet?
I hope Autodesk fixes this problem.

Yikes!
Exactly the same thing here, but printing to a HP 1050C which is a very similar plotter to your one.
What driver version are you using...we are using the one which shipped with Autocad2000
HP DesignJET Printer driver v4.65

Was looking at updating driver (which I never like doing - if it works, dont fix it), but if you are using a newer one, then I guess I had better not..

By the way, this happens for new 9.0 version files as well as upgraded

Updated my drivers anyway to the latest off the HP site (version 4.67)...same crash happens.
What a nightmare.... :-(

Tried to use HP postscript driver (from their site) - it sent it to the plotter...the plotter received it, then nothing happened (just trying - didnt think our plotter was a postscript one) - but at least it didnt blow up the print spooler

I also have the HP 1055CM, and I can't print raster images at all.

Using Revit 9, does it blow up your print spooler as well?

Just not able to print rasters or shaded images. I haven't had a chance to talk with the person responsible for our printer. Will check and post back later.

Did you try to plot to PDF then send to printer ?

HP1050c here, Revit 9.0 crashes the printer - PDF printing only option..............

I just quit plotting raster because it crased everytime. I was using the dwf export in 8.1. I had to keep everything vector and very few shaded/edges views. Autodesk told me that it was too much for the system.. basically used up too much system memory and it would continually do this.

Stupid Question, are you using the lastest Build of Revit? Build Number: 20060518_2300

using HP 1050c and an HP 1055CM here with no crash problems.

using HP 1050c and an HP 1055CM here with no crash problems.

So there may be hope:

Scott...a couple of questions:
1. What build of revit 9 are you using and did you have probs with previous build?
2. Is 1050 connected to a print server, if so, what system software is it running (ie: MS Server 2003?)
3. What system software is on your PC's (XP?)
4. What drivers are you using for the 1050

Note this is only happening to me when I do 'raster' prints (ie: shaded views or even when I do a 'raster' print of a plan) - vector prints are fine

Note there is another thread covering the same problem...raster on 'low' seems to work, but, obviously quality is low!

Thanks Scott, the only difference I can see is your "HP Device print server' - is this some sort of JetDirect device? Or is it a PC?

Also, are you a stand alone user?

Anyone found a fix for this?

I am having the same issue with the same printer. I am unable to print raster images as well. Instead of printing black, though, mine prints out a sheet of white, blank paper, after it desimates my print spooler. I have no idea what could be the problem, and it is happening to me on every project that we have in version 9. What a nightmare! Let me know if you have heard anything. Thanks.

NO FIX YET!!!!
VERY ANNOYING!!!!

REVIT 2008 WITH THE LATEST BUILD SAME PROBLEM, AND THE FILES ARE NOT EVEN THAT BIG 1.34 MB.

PDF IS THE OPTION WE USE TO GET AROUND IT.

WHERE ARE YOU AUTODESK AND WHY WON'T YOU FIX THIS?

Have you actually submitted a Support Request to the Revit team?

Have you actually submitted a Support Request to the Revit team?
You Bet..
3 times even.
I actually had Autodesk replicate the problem at their office because they happen to have the same plotter as us.
And No fix yet, it is now V2008 and same problem.

And they emailed that the issue was resolved, and it was NOT resolved.
It was like they just gave up.

I'll stick to PDF for now.

Thank you asking if I did submit a Support Request because that will help in most instances

I would go back into your Support Requests, find this particular one that will now be marked as "closed" since they say it was resolved. Reopen the request and re-submit it, saying that the problem still exists. I don't think they gave up....they think they fixed it. If they haven't, let them know again!

What is the deal with this.... FIX IT...

We are sick of having someone accidentally hitting the print button with Raster Processing on, and then the President of our company needs to print something after hours and all the printers are down, then our IT people must leave their homes if they are available after hours and come in to reset the spooler.

This does not shine well on Autodesk Revit

We crash the entire office about once a week because some engineer wants to print a revit file.

I actually reopened this support request a few months ago and they are supposed to get back to you. ...and guess what..... nothing.

Scott,

We have given up on the getting the HP1055CM to work - are now looking to upgrade our plotter - model we are currently reviewing is HP T1100PS - we are hoping this newer model plotter will not have these same raster plotting problems - do you have any experience/knowledge of this plotter on whether there are any none issues with REVIT and the HP T1100PS plotter?
