We recently noticed that we had some elevation views with vertical dimensions which disappeared when un-linking imported objects.
Apparently we had snapped the dimensions to the imported object
which was in the same plane as the Level indicator---should have had the imported info off in the elev. view---this got even worse when a new version of the imported info was attched, and the old replaced--all the dimensions (lots of them) were deleted.

So lesson learned----be careful not to snap dimensions to imported objects!

This is true for all Revit objects.

If you are dimensioning from center of column to center of column - be sure to tab to the grid line the column sits on - not the column. If the column should be deleted the dimension associated will be deleted too.

OR... on the other hand... if you use grid lines for organizational purposes in residential design but you don't actually show them in the plan when you print... make sure you dimension to the wall core (or whatever convention you use) instead of the grid line! It works both ways.
