I am attempting to add a door to wall that is in a design option but am having some trouble. I have copied the wall into all of my design options because I need it to host different doors that I am trying to add to each option. (The wall is no longer in the main model). When I go to edit a design option, I try to place the door in the wall and when I do, I get these two errors:

1. An insert in a Design Option cannot be hosted by an element in another Design Option.

2. An element may not reference an element in another Option of the same Option Set.

This doesn't make since because why would it try to place the door in a wall from another design option if I currently am in the edit mode for a different option? I know the wall is in the current option I am editing because I am able to highlight the wall and adjust the wall while in the edit mode. Any help is appreciated, on a deadline!!

Thanks,

mike

Sounds like it is trying to put the door into a different wall from the one you have in mind. There could be several walls on top of each other, including one in Main Model. A quick way to get around it is to select the wall you want to put the door in, Isolate Object (from the sun glass icon at the bottom of the window), put the door in, ignore the warning that the door isn't visible, and then Reset Temporary Hide/Isolate.

If you do this, you might be just sweeping the problem under the rug. If there is an overlapping wall it is better to fix it. It is probably a main model wall that duplicates a wall in the option. When you get the warning you described, pick on Expand to get the extended error dialog. Expand the node showing the warning, and look at the element description of the wall. This will tell you if the wall it is trying to put it in is in the option or not, and give you other information about the wall including its ID. If you select the line in the dialog it will highlight the wall. You can use view commands, including double-clicking to open another view in the browser, to see it. You can also write down the id, Cancel the error dialog, and highlight that wall using Tools | Element Ids | Select by Id.

I've had this sort of difficulty before - and for no apparent reason either. I've also found that IF you have something such as a wall sweep in your design option that touches another wall or sweep that is in the base model or another option, it will cause a coniption with this insert. Also, check your door and window model to see that there isn't anything that may be 'extending out' of the scope/view of the door (such as reference planes with things locked to them), that may be causing this. Also... try to offset the wall or make a similar little wall and insert the door there, then move the wall into place.

Good luck,
Kyle

I know this is an old issue, but I just ran into a similar problem with a door and a wall. Even though I had already put three doors in this one wall, the fourth door kept giving me these errors:

1. An insert in a Design Option cannot be hosted by an element in another Design Option.
2. An element may not reference an element in another Option of the same Option Set.

I don't know why three doors worked and the fourth door didn't. Whatever the problem was, it seemed to be specific to that one area of the wall. I tried to copy one of the three successful doors over to the offending area of the wall, but it rejected that door, too. I tried the hide/isolate feature, but I still got the error.

Finally, I went into the 3D model and was able to place the door that way. It was also possible to drag one of the successful doors over to the bad place without error.

Just an FYI
