Using Surface to set 'Z' Elevations

Greetings folks...I used Civil 3D 2006 to create a surface from contours and/or spot elevations which resulted in a community wide surface. I have over 6000 hydrant symbols (in block -and- point format) that have the correct 'X & Y' values but 0 (zero) as the 'Z' value. Is there any way to use the surface to create accurate 'Z' values in the hydrant blocks?

Have you tried redefining the block with a point defined in it. Then you can use LDT to reinsert the points associated with the block to the elevation defined in the DTM for that location.

I have never tried this but it should work.
