looking into switching to Revit from ADT, one question that has come up is how does Revit handle "title Blocks", currently with ADT we have one that is xref'ed into every sheet of the project, how is this handled in Revit?

Thanks for your time

Using a title block family - assuming you understand the idea of families being like blocks with significantly enhanced functionality. The title block has a set of hard-coded parameters including certain project data and so on and holds information such as sheet number.

It's pretty easy to do as well

One of the significant advantages I have found with Revit Title Blocks is their ability to retain the parameters assigned (sheet number, name, drawn by etc.) when changes are made to the title block graphics. Simply by changing the tblock family and reinserting into the project the apperance of the title block can be altered without a lot of fuss. In order to do this in AutoCAD the user requires a separate block containing the tblock attributes. The automation in the referencing of sheet numbers, detail numbers etc. is a huge benefit as well.

Related question.

I'm just working on porting over our AutoCAD Title Blocks to Revit.

The one field I'm having trouble with the Project Preface.
I would like to be able to add a line in front of the project name which states: "New Construction for", "Addition to", or "Renovation of" without creating three different version of each title block. Can I create an instance family or a radio button to do this?

Two more questions:

Revision Dates? ie Issued for Review 1/1/2004, Issued for Bid 1/2/2004, Issued for Construction 1/3/2004 and Addendums (which may only apply to certain sheets, but you don't want to type each time)

Consultant Names?

In ACAD we had two xref's, one that was the same on every project (the Title Block) and one that was project specific (the Text) should I be thinking differently in Revit?

I would like to be able to add a line in front of the project name which states: "New Construction for", "Addition to", or "Renovation of" without creating three different version of each title block.

First, it really isn't too hard to add 3 title blocks. Just go into the title block family and add the text, save, change the text, save as, etc. then load the 3 title blocks into your project and you will be able to pick each one every time you make a sheet.

Easier still, though, is to make this line a shared parameter (see help files or other posts on this forum if you've never used shared parameters). This way, it will be an instance parameter as you suggested.

I also use a shared parameter for consultant names, although I wish there was a way to make them project wide parameters rather than instance...

Unfortunately, there is not a great way to do this, but there is a decent way. See discussion Here (http://www.zoogdesign.com/forums/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3429&highlight=revision)

Since we are talking titleblocks I found the tags for the labels to be element properties and cannot seem to modify an instance property of the label. I wanted my Project name to be larger than the DWN BY CHKED BY SCALE, etc. How do we take these different tag and change them individually?

Thanx!

All you need to do is create different text styles in the title block family file and assign those to the applicable tag.

Hey guys! see David Conant's post above. 7.0 is going to a database approach towards titleblocks.
