I have a Revit model I created in 8.1.

We have now installed revit 9 and I have been asked to produce an animated solar study of the building. I know the procedure - shadows on - single day - time etc but when I seclect export to solar study nothing happens.

I tried it with a new project simply four walls and a roof and it worked fine.

Anyone any ideas - the clock is ticking - i got to get this AVI into a presentation by 9:00am Monday.

Regards

Dave

i have do the same, open a version 8.1 project in Revit 9
save with a new name
open the principal views and apply shadows to see if it work fine
after that i create a new camera view
tried the shadows in various hours
and create the usual time frame to export a solar study, everything work fine

Many thanks for the reply but i still cant get mine to even allow me to export to avi, once i select export it just does nothing. I am suspecting a bug but need input from more of you guys to confirm the glitch

A quick question - did your project have worksets ?

I am desperate to get to the bottom of this.

Hi Dave

Just came across the same problem with single day solar studies today and was wondering if you placed the support call and got any feedback.

If not I'll send one myself.

It seems to be the same problem - the time changes in the animation but the shadow doesn't move

Thanks

Marco

Marco

To my embaressment - No I did not place a support request - I sent it to our other office and it seemed to work on another machine but I know that other offices of our have had trouble using this function.

Please let me know if you get to the bottom of this.

Regards

Dave

I can't get it to do anything either. Has anyone figured this out?

I just tried and mine worked OK... version 9.1.
I exported using a shaded view, 8:00am-7pm, 1frame per second.

I'm in 9.0 and I don't see any change in the view as I go from frame to frame.

Hi

Just set and run a solar study then was successfully able to export and view

though am needing help to slow it down. Shadow tail "wags like a dog on heat" LOL.

Will attemp to reduce compression to 20% and increase number of frames to 200!!

by the way rotated my 3D view to top view with shade on (with my custom settings on)

cheers

I can't get it to do anything either. Has anyone figured this out?Raising this issue again - I was playing with this feature today in some 3d views and couldn't get an animated single day study either... in preview or in export avi the shadows just stayed in the same place... any explanation that anyone is aware of? I can't see any settings that can be tweeked really either since the advanced model graphics dialogue box is so straight forward...

Cheers, Elrond

Anybody got any pointers for this issue yet?

I went through DG's tutorial on his Revit Rocks! blog and checked that the single day study was showing on the Advanced Graphics dialogue box etc... preview buttons all show at the top of the screen... but no shadow movement..!!! I tried it with a multi-day animation and no success either... :(

Is there some critical setting / process order or soemthing required for it to animate the shadows?

Did you remember to set the number of frames?

Did you remember to set the number of frames?Sure I set it to 30min intervals and from sunrise to sunset - when I do the preview I can see it counting frames ... but no changes in the shadows...

Honestly I think the feature just is broken. I've logged it and never got an answer why it wasnt working.
