You can use Revit's “Purge Unused” tool to clean out families that you are not using to keep your drawing file small. However, if you want to quickly purge just one family, here is a simple shortcut:

In the browser window open up the "families" tab, select the family you want to purge, right click it and select delete.

Where is the 'PURGE UNUSED' tool?

I found it under the file menu.

When I type PURGE in the help file index, a help topic on file saving comes up that has nothing to do with purging families. I found information about 'PURGE' by searching the help file.
