Automatically assigning elevations to points as they are created!!!

We have a proposed "sportsfield" surface and have drawn a 50-foot grid system on it. We would like to set points on the proposed surface on the 50-foot grid system. How do we change the point creation settings to automatically assign the current surface elevation to each point?

I have figured this one out too, but I am having the issue of extra points being created.

I am creating points along a polyline at a specified interval. However, whn I move on to the next polyline the points are drawn again on the previous polyline.
