Massing "no solid geometry

In massing, I am making an arched tapered column using the sweep tool and then cutting the form with voids. I get the error message that there is "No solid geometry" and I can't place a wall or curtain wall on the mass. Is there geometry that Revit does not understand???

Create the void while in sketch mode for the element to be cut, use " Cut Geom " tool, then finish the sketch.
