What are property lines for, if not for defining properties?
I have a big property and I want to make three smaller out of it. I figured that the easiest way to do this is to add some property lines... NO! I get silly messages saying that property lines are intersecting or overlapping... Of course they are intersecting and I can't see why connecting some lines (end to end) is overlapping !
If it is not possible to divide big properties to smaller or to sketch multiple properties then property lines are simply lines...

Are you asking for the Revit Surveyor/Civil package? That one isnt out as yet.
 I couldnt resist

You can make 3 separate properties with the property lines touching each other instead of trying to have Revit subdivide the lot for you.

If you have done multiple "building pads" under a building with different depths at different areas, it is a similar concept. You cant make them in the same operation, you have to make one, finish sketch and then make another.

It would be nice to be able to sub-divide a large area, though, as surveys often will report the area of a large area, and the outer-most property lines will be for that large area, and then there will be separate bearings, distances, and areas for the subdivided regions.

I suppose you could do one large area, and 3 small areas for a total of 4 areas to make the areas and property line tags show correctly.

To echo Patrick, you'll need to make complete, closed loops with your property line objects if you want them to give you area information. This means that lines on adjacent properties will be coincident on the common boundary. You can use incomplete loops if you choose, but there will be no data associated with them.

I have only had one project where I had to show additional divisions on the lot and just approached it like in ACAD ( ) I drew the boundary and then used detail lines to show the divisions.

Its a bit off topic here but kinda related is there a way to extract the table of the deed data and put it in a sheet without those L/R direction of course.

To patricks:

My example shows 3 areas, it could be 50 areas. All I'm asking is that property lines should be more like area boundary, because that's what they really are.

To jcdecastro:
No, I don't think that pads are the same thing. Property lines are area boundary lines and they should be easy to change, divide, connect, etc.

Thank you all for your answer, but I think that what I'm asking is a good wishlist item and I will post it there too...

I have not had any problems having one big property and then drawing 3 smaller ones inside. You have to create them separately. All 3 can't be done in the same sketch. It would be nice if you could give phase properties to property lines. You could then demolish the "old" property line and create the new property boundaries.
