No GB ceiling pattern?

I doing my first ceiling, and after applying the default "gyp on studs" to an area I expected a pattern. There's nothing and no visible evidence that it's there except that I can select it. I played with the properties fill pattern. Why am I not seeing anything?

Have you added a surface pattern to the gyp material ?

Also, I duplicate the Finishes - Interior Gypsum material and rename the second as Finishes - Interior Gypsum Ceiling so that the pattern will not show up in any interior elevations.
