Hello Revit Community,

Can someone please tell me where I saw the tutorial on adding gyp. bd. to the underside of a stair? I know I saw this somewhere, but I can't for the life of me find the info.

I need to add 1 or more layers of drywall to the underside of an accessible stair for fire safety reasons. Not too sure of the right way to do this. Do I need to create a flat gyp. bd. profile for a "railing" sweep ?? Any help is greatly appreaciated.

Thanks,

Paul P.

Assuming that you stair is a constant angle you could you not use the ceiling tool to create this.

HTH.

A railing object is one option - define a profile thatt matches the width of your stair. Use that profile to define the "rail" of your railing object. Set all balusters/posts to "none". Draw the railing, use set host and pick the stair, then adjust your railing up and down as necessary to get it in the right spot.

Hey thanks Paul.

Sloping ceilings! What will they think of next? I need to spend less time doing plain old project work and more time scouring the help file for cool features. I still think there was a "adding ceilings under stairs" tutorial- has anyone seen this?

New methods bring new challenges: are there any experts who know why my slope arrow properties "height offset at tail" values do not match the actual height offset required? I need to fudge the slope arrow values to match actual conditions.

EX: The ceiling starts at Level 2 -6 3/4" and goes up to Level 2 +4'- 1 5/8" but I have to fool around with the slope arrow pretties numbers to get the ceiling aligned with these locations? Head offset must be = -7 1/2" while Tail = +4' - 6 15/16" to get it looking right...

Anyhow, thanks all the help everyone. AUGI is three for three over the last few days; a Very good resource for How-To info.

Note - railing is the only way to pull this off on curved stairs.

Good input on the railing "profile". problem for this stair is that it has a landing, and thus a non uniform stringer height, and it expands width slightly at the bottom. I figure those two variables might interfere with the tricky gyp.bd. as profile trick.

Great input though. Thank you.

P.S. Chris, Go GATORS!! I saw Studio HT written up in the last Alumni propaganda. Looks like a fun outfit you have there in CO. Drop me a line if you are ever in S.F. We can commiserate about the closing of the Purple Porpoise... Of course I was a Salty Dog man myself. Barch 1995.

Small World, getting smaller.

Here's one, from Chris Price (Mr Spot)
There is also one on Steve Staffor's blog ( http://revitoped.blogspot.com/)

Chris, another option instead of using slope arrows is to define a slope, select the appropriate sketch line and use the define slope check box on the options bar. You can specify the angle as you can with a roof and in the ceiling properties you can control its offset from the level in which you draw it.
