Linked files & Phase Filter - Bug?

I submitted a support request to Autodesk yesterday, and after a chat with a very helpful Autodesk support person this morning, I'm having doubts about whether I'm understanding my issue properly.

Here is the request I submitted:

I'll try and explain this the best that I can, refer attached file.
I think there may be a bug in the display of linked files when changing the Phase Filter in the Visibility settings.
In the file "Link.rvt", the Phase Filters settings for "Show Previous + Current" for New is set to By Category and Existing is set to Overridden.
In the file "Project.rvt" these same settings are set to By Category for both New and Existing. Now when you go to Visibility / Revit Links / Display Settings for "Link.rvt", when the Phase Filter is set to <By host view>, it doesn't display using the host's phase filter settings as describe above.
If these Phase Filter settings are changed in the "Link.rvt" file they are then reflected back in "Project.rvt" file.
Either I'm doing something wrong or the Phase filter for linked files isn't working properly.Can someone here verify that I'm correct and not going insane.

Just had a chat with my local reseller about this and we are in agreement with my concern of it being a bug, for the moment.
It will be escalated to someone higher than local support within Autodesk for further confirmation.

Did you ever get anywhere on this issue? I've got the same thing popping up I think. Multiple, phased buildings on the site (drawn as masses right now) where things get demolished and built at different times. Can't seem to get the linked masses to use the appropriate materials...
