I have my level datums set to 2d and I would like to reorganize their location and would like all of them to be 3d. How do I change the 2d to 3d? The only option I get when I right click on a datum is "Maximize 3d extents". This doesn't appear to do anything. Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Did you try left clicking on the blue "2D" text? When I do that, I can toggle between "2D' and '3D".

That used to work, but now nothing happens. Perhaps there was a change made in Revit 9 that I am unaware of.

Select them > Right Click > Reset to 3D Extents (make sure you see the "move" icon when you right click) You'll have to this individually, you can't apply this change with multiple levels selected, just does it to the last one selected.

Reset to 3d extents is grayed out. I only have "Maximize 3d extents" and that doesn't do anything.

Some additional notes on the subject:

Having all your levels/grids 3D vs 2D has to be done in each view (argh)
If the crop region is smaller than the 3D extents, the 2D/3D icon will show "2D" in grey letters, and until the crop region is larger than the 3D extents you won't be able to change to 3D in that view

Are you trying to edit this in a section view by chance? Try it in an elevation...if in elevation is there a crop region visible or hidden and the level's 3D extent is outside the crop region? Increase it or turn off the crop region, should work then.

...Having all your levels/grids 3D vs 2D has to be done in each view (argh)...Propagate extents on the options bar alleviates this some.

Thanks Steve & Wes, I expanded the crop region and the "Reset" option became available. I should bookmark this topic as I am sure to forget all of this. In fact I probably knew this once and have even forgotten that I knew it!

Good information to know. I've ran across this several times (levels and grids) on different projects that are active and have not had the time to track down what my end-users have been doing. Hitting the print button now.

Thanks for this tip! I've been struggling with this problem for many years! Gotta remember to always try the right click!
