View Full Version : Text Objects not showing up in final drawing

I have an old wall tag that was created who-knows-when that I am supposing used to be a block. It is now a text object I have copied and edited a couple of hundred times in my base drawings to be xref-ed into the final dwgs. In the final dwgs, the text objects do not show up. I could txt2mtxt all the text objects, but the default is WALL and then I'd have to re-edit all the text to our wall numbering AGAIN. Is there some way to explode the text objects and have them retain their values (and my sanity?) As they are not attributes, any attribute editor does not recognize them.
Thanks,
gr8gb

let's see if I am understanding... you have some text in as a part of a block, and the drawing that the block resides in is being x-reffed into another drawing, which doesn't display the text?
any way you could post that block as a sample? also, what relase of autocad are you running (not sure if it's important, but, might come in handy)

Hi
Can you please post an example drawing file that exhibits the behaviour you have described above, so we may take a look at the issue / problem, first hand ( so-to-speak ).
Currently I am not quite understanding the issue / problem you have described above. Sorry.
Have a good one, Mike

It's not a block, but it probably started life as part of one. In Properties it is listed as an Attribute, but in reality it is a Text Object that shows up in the base file it was copied into, but not on the destination drawing it is xref-ed into. BTW, I'm on 2002 for convenience of our subs, although I do have 2006 for transfer work. If it still needs to be posted, where do I do that?

Try this...

Well, I was going to upload the dwg, but it said it was too big. I then copied it to a new file, erased everything but the wall tag, purged and it's still saying it's 2.8Mb. Impossible but true. No other elements to be found anywhere. Bizarre.

First, try here...
The drawing file size is large, but there is hardly anything in it.
Plus, maybe also look at placing the drawing file(s) in a ZIP file.

Wrote a block of it in 2007, purged and all is fine. Here it is in 2002 format. Hope someone can tell me how get it to show in an xref-ed drawing or failing that, edit them globally and retain their values.
Thx.

In my humble opinion, the contents of drawing file "wall tag block.dwg" ( attached to above post ), should really be a Block with an Attribute.
With that said...
First you need to convert the Attribute Object to a Text Object. Go here ( DotSoft - Free Stuff (http://www.dotsoft.com/freestuff.htm) ) and get "TAG2TXT.LSP".
Use "TAG2TXT.LSP" to convert the Attribute Objects to Text Objects.
You should then be good to go.
