View Full Version : Hiding assembly within the wall

Hello all..

When you are modifying a wall you go into properties, structure and edit.. once there there is all the details for inside your wall (ie: finish, substrate, membranes etc..) when you then load this in your project you see all these details on your plans, is there a way to keep these details but hide/shut off through VG so that they do not show up? I would like to see only the core of the wall on my plan (or have the option to only see the core).

Thank you,

Christine

Christine,

If you set your view to coarse all the details will be hidden. But the wall thickness will reflect the "Actual" thickness of the assembly, not just the core. When you use tools like dimension align etc you can ask Revit to favor the core, center or face edge, and also use the tab key to override the snap. To test this and see how it works try this.

Create a new wall style with 6" core of whatever material
Add a 4" material to each side.
Draw a wall or walls
Pick dimension and choose prefer: Face of core from the options bar at the top.
Hover over the wall with the dimension tool. You should see a green reference plane at the edge of the core. While hovering tap the tab key. The plane should cycle between the center and then the face edge. Move your cursor to the various sides of the wall and the line should flip.

This solves the longstanding problem of drawing walls nominally or actual. Draw it correctly and dimension where you need. Our standard is as follows:

1 Existing walls - Face of Finish
2 New interior walls - Center or core
3 Exterior walls or major interior walls - Face of core to Gridline or face of core

Chris is right about using the course view, but if it is necessary to have different views, some with just the wall core and other views with core and finishes, you may have to create two or more wall types per wall in your project. For example, if you have a cmu wall with stud furring, create one wall type for your cmu and another wall type for your furring. Place both into project and join geometry between the two. Then you can adjust the display per view using the phasing options.
