I'm a new user using Revit 3. Is there an easy way to add a baseplate to a column?

There is no baseplate that comes out of the box with Revit. In order to add the baseplate, you would most likely want to create a custom family with many sizes available to you. There are some really nice tutorials that come with Revit and they should be more than enough to get you going so you can develop the family.
One thing to consider is how useful you will find it to model the baseplates. It might be enough to just add them in when you are detailing your construction documents. Others might have some more opinions on this and I'm curious what type of work you are doing. That might help get you some more feedback regarding how much others in the same line of work as you are modeling versus detail linework.
If you need an example baseplate just reply back and I'm sure you'll get more help.
By the way, welcome to AUGI :) forums!

I agree.
If you do feel there is an added benefit by modeling every baseplate, as rmcelvain said, you could develop your own family. You could then modify the Steel column family to include the baseplate and parametrically select it. This is the road we've taken for pile cap footings.

Is a baseplate connection on the Revit wish list?
