Sorry guys, new here just posted this in the wrong section.

Anyway

Could anyone help on this question.

When adding a column into a std wall type, the column inherits the
construction of the wall. For example, if the wall is a std partition with plasterboard
each side, the column then appears after being placed as also having plasterboard
fascias.

Is it a matter of telling Revit to remember the material ( steel / concrete) for the column
and ignore the wall type.

Any help would help.

thanks

Phil.

I know you can separate them by selecting "Tools, Unjoin geometry".
There may also be other ways.

Use the structural column in the Structural design tab not the architectural column in the modeling tab.

Architectural columns are intended to work this way while structural columns are not. For architectural columns think pilaster instead of column.

That said, you can change the behavior of an architectural column by editing the family and telling it not to automatically join with walls.
