View Full Version : Items don't show in Multi-Category Takeoff

I made a sink from scratch. It is in the Plumbing Fixture category. It doesn't show in Multi-Category takeoff schedule. (Or in a Plumbing takeoff, for that matter.) A toilet that came with Revit does show. The only diff between the two that I see is the toilet has greyed test in the Assembly Description parameter. Can't write anything here on the sink.
(No Filtering or Phase Filter)
How can I get this item to show? I have a Generic Model that is not showing either.

How many phases are there in your project?
What phase is the plumbing fixture part of?
What phase is the schedule assigned?
This should just work...post the families?

Everything is set to New Construction. (I meant to put aside any Phasing issues by when I wrote "(No Filtering or Phase Filter)" in my post.)
I am attaching the file. It is a vessel type sink made in the Generic Model Template and assigned to Plumbing Fixtures.
Furthermore, the thing schedules fine when I create a Schedule of Plumbing Fixtures. It's just Material Takeoff that doesn't work with this. I dont know the purpose of this command other than making a schedule and typing "Material Takeoff" as the title - and wasting 3 hours of my time...

Sometimes you need to set the type mark for it to show up in the schedule. If one isn't associated it will lump it with the rest of the families without a type mark.

Which are you trying to do? Multi-Category Schedule or Material Takeoff? You say the first in your initial post and then the second just now.

I discovered the problem trying to do a Multi-Category Takeoff, but after more testing I see the multi-category aspect is not the problem, so a limiting it to a Plumbing Fixture Material Takeoff makes it easier to diagnose. (I see how the name of this thread is not accurate now).
I have narrowed it down to this: The sink shows when using the Schedule function, but not the Material Takeoff function.
(Giving it a Type Mark value did not help).

Material takeoff is literal...Materials. Those assigned to wall layers for example. Sketch a stud wall with two layers of GWB and then do a material takeoff using the category "Walls".

Oh. I feel a bit silly now, but I get it: The Schedule counts the sinks and the Material Takeoff counts the drywall. How would I go about getting a total project estimate that includes both?
