AutoCAD 2006 - QSelect/ Filter crashes when more than a 1000 Objects are selected

In previous additions of Autocad I have used qselect on an hourly basis. I recently installed 2006 ( I will install 2007 after this project.) and everytime I run a large qselect or filter (more than a thousand things), the program stalls and crashes. Does anybody have information about conflicting hardware or software? Is there a fix?

Have you got Service Pack 1 for AutoCAD 2006 installed...

All service packs were installed. Repair was tried. I gave up and installed 2007. I can only guess at the cause. My only thought is I installed Office 2003 and OpenOffice after my Autocad installation; I do not know. My first selections are working so far.
