I am needing an easy way to put in Skewed columns, I know, who would want skewed columns, crazy architects. I was thinking about trying to use the brace tool to get them in there. Any help would be appreciated.

Brett,
Unfortunately Revit does not yet support skewed columns (but they are well aware of the issue). Braces will show offset in plan view so do not work well either.

Your best bet at the moment is to do an in-place family using a solid sweep.

Here's a link to a similar POST (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=22112&highlight=SLOPED+COLUMNS) ... hopefully it'll help you.

Thanks for the help, as always. The firm I work for is just getting started with Revit structure so I will probably have many more questions. It is quite a change going from 2D drawing to a modeling system.

You are not kidding there!

I'm literally about ready to run away from this current project crying and screaming.....roof drains moving, foundation system changing from conc to cmu, ledge elevations changing. In 2d AutoCAD it'd be a 2 hour job but if I do it right in Revit it's gonna take me at least 6. I know it's the way of the future but I just can't wait to get as good at Revit as I am at AutoCAD.

whew! I feel a lot better just getting that off my chest :) !

For me just starting out I hope that the benefits of the program out weigh the cost of time it takes me to do it. Thanks agien for the help.

Don't get me wrong :) , I'm just stressing out right now (and yet here I am at AUGI!). I do see some great benefits and the more we use the product the better we will get....good luck!

Instead of an inplace family, why not use a brace member? It will look the same graphically, but it will be a structural member instead of a mass. Just a thought.

David,
Braced members show offset in plan view I believe. Maybe if you called it a kicker braced it wouldn't? But I think that is the problem.

As for being stressed out, it can be very frustrating. It definately gets better over time though as you get more experienced. I can attest to that. Lately I have had a much easier time getting things done. Stick with it! You guys are doing great, and asking all the right questions.

Just starting my first skewed/sloped columns/framing for a Canopy. (see attached RAM Image) Managed to get the columns shown properly, but am having trouble getting my framing to snap to the top of columns. Is there a preferred method for doing this? Also any other tips/tricks for pulling this one off?

thanks,
jamie

TomTom, You can change how they are displayed in the display contol.

Couldn't you use a beam and change the end and start offset as needed? See attached.

Sloped beams are definitely the way to go here. David, where is this display control you speak of? I haven't had any luck finding it.

Chad,

Could you (or someone else) briefly describe how you created that clean connection between the angled and horizontal beams? I have a similar condition but the coping tool is not working.
