View Full Version : Line wieghts of Imported dwgs

I set my Import Lineweights for dwg/dxf files, but I'm not seeing a change. The lines in the dwg files are set to "default" as line thickness (Revit imports the actual line thickness if specified in the dwg file.....in the layers). Do I have to re-import from scratch to see changes? Or reload? Or do the import lineweights work on imported files only and not on linked ones?
Thanks!

Did you notice at the bottom of the Import Line Weights: dialog box the "NOTE: These values only apply to lines and layers set to DEFAULT lineweight in the source DWG/DXF file. Lines and Layers with set Line-weights are automatically imported at that width.
You would have to open the DWG in AutoCAD to see if the Layer Manager settings for layers has a line weight (pen) setting or if individual entities (lines, circles, arcs, etc.) have their specific line weight set. If either of these conditions apply to the various entities by layer or by entity you would have to set them to not have a line weight assignment in order to have Revit import and apply the line weight setting in your Import Line Weight settings file.

Thanks for your reply....I noticed and knew about that fact; mentioned it in my post...maybe I wasn't clear enough
Do those lineweight settings work on linked files or just on imported files? If they work on linked files, can you make changes to the lineweights and see those changes in already linked files, or would you have to re-link from scratch?

Ok, figured it out.....and the answer to my question is YES. The linewieght settings work on linked files too and you do NOT have to re-import. When changes are made to the lineweight settings and you reload the link, the line weights update. Thanks.

aloha,
i realize this is an old link, but i've been seeing conflicting information regarding this. so, if there are LINKED dwg details in a revit file, and they were brought in with the wrong lineweight settings, if i reload them using the correct lineweight settings, it should work?? is that right? i thought it was necessary to detach them and start all over again linking the details in.
please correct me if i've been misinformed.
thank you,
jamie

Hi Jamie,
No, it's not necessary to detach and re-link. I was able to just reload the links and the lineweights updated. This seems to work whether you make changes in the dwg itself (such as setting some layers to "Default" lineweight )or making changes to the lineweight import file in Revit.

alright, we've tested this in an office that i'm working in, and it doesn't seem to update the lineweights. for instance, the wrong import file was originally used, so color #8 from acad was set to revit lineweight 1. but actually it was supposed to be 2.
so the revit import file was changed. then we went to the manage links and reloaded the file. but in object styles, that same layer (acad color #8) that was set to 1 is still 1 and does not change to 2.
are we missing something here?
thanks,

To be honest, I'm not sure how Revit is doing this. The lineweight is not changing in the Object styles dialog and it doesn't seem like an override is being added. I changed the lineweight in the import settings file and reloaded the link and the screen updated. But the lineweights in the V/G dialog (or the Object Styles dialog) did not change at all! This is quite confusing.

It's not enough to just reload the linked file, you need to unload, then reload the file from the link manager.
