I was reading an AU paper about advanced Revit techniques and was wondering how they did something. It showed a wall assembly with the outer layer extending further down to the foundation. I attached a picture from the AU paper. I was trying to figure out how to do that. The paper just described it. Any help would be great. Thanks.

In the Wall Type properties, edit the structure of the wall and display it in section in the new dialog... then zoom into the wall components you want to modify, select the bottom (or top) edge and unlock the padlock icon that comes up (you'll need to do this for each component that you want modified. This will allow you to drag them individually in section.,
Word of caution... you would need to do this for ALL walls if you want it to display correctly in all view (and that can be a real pain).

I tried that. I can't drag the lower edge. Even after I unlock the line, it won't let me modifly the bottom of the wall. I can change the widths of the individual layers.

You don't do it in the wall assembly, you do it from a real section view.

In an actual section view, I can only stretch the entire wall down. I can't pull down different sections of the wall assembly.

I also have this same problem. I gave up thinking i was doing something wrong.

You must Edit the Properties of the wall, go to the Preview area, and switch to Section view. Now, unlock the tops of the layers of each piece of the wall that you want to extend, using the modify button. Once unlocked, they will extend in any section view in the model.

Yes once unlocked. Place a wall in plan then in the walls instance properties there are new fields for top extension and bottom extension which are no longer greyed out. Here you can control how far these layers should extend.

Thanks. Its a two step process. I thought you could just extend it after I unlock it in the wall assembly window. Thanks again for the help!
