Anyone know of a way to directly obtain the footprint area of a mass object so it can be tagged in plan?
I have a client that is doing some Prelim Design work and they have masses representing buildings in plan. They have created floor are faces and managed to schedule total floor areas for the masses but they need to obtain the footprint area so they can use the value to calculate site coverage. They want to tag the mass in plan with this area.
I've managed four or five workarounds but want to be able to do this directly from the mass.

You can create a mass annotation family using the generic annotation template.

You can then add a label within this family to show "gross floor area", load this into your project, then you're away! Just be careful as the floor area is the total of all floor area faces in your mass (ie if you have 3 floor area faces within a particular mass the total area of all the faces is shown in the tag).

Hopefully that makes sense??

And therein lies the issue :) . Thanks for the reply but the client needs just the footprint area. They seem happy enough with one of my workarounds (creating floors and filtering to only calculate floor areas at 'Level 1') but I was hoping for a tidier, all in the mass, solution.
